Age of Wonders: Planetfall was added to Xbox Game Pass at the end of last year - if you're yet to try it but are tempted by the Tyrannosaurus update, don't forget there's still an offer for three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for £1 so that'd be a good place to start. When starting, it becomes immediately clear that much inspiration has been drawn from Sid Meier’s titles. There's a lot - a lot - more the devs say the change notes are 26 pages long, but you can see a summary here. The Age of Wonders team have added in a bunch of additional new features and updates: fleeing enemies, AI improvements, improvements to the tutorial and campaign, a re-balancing of economy research, improvements to war coordination, and secret tech starting bonuses. Once the player has captured and cleared these sites, they'll provide buffs and bonuses to units from the colony linked to them.

The devs say that a lot of the feedback revolved around the lack of mid-game content, as most of the sites didn't really challenge the player's army, "which led to the mid game feeling a bit flat." There are seven Exploration sites, each with a new tactical map and a more challenging defence, which have been rebuilt from the Visit Sites. Also introduced with the update are new Exploration sites. The No Coloniser mode is back as part of the update the site says it's "an old favourite", which "blocks the ability for all players to build colonizers to create new colonies". The biggest changes included with the update are the new game modes: new difficulty settings allow for a relaxed or hardcore mode, with players being able to toggle the passivity of enemies, NPCs and spawners.
